XT500 Side Covers - Designs & Shapes

The side covers of the German XT500 can be divided into two standard groups: The side covers of the steel tank XTs up to model year 1979 in white in a large basic shape and the side covers of the aluminum tank XTs from model year 1980 in black in a small basic shape. The right-hand side cover always has a straight end for the flame pot and a pin bolt with a slot for locking, the left-hand side cover has a lock for locking with a key.

The side covers of the TT500 are also available in two designs: the early large basic design in the colors Clean White (1976), El Torro Orange (1977) and Competition Yellow (1978) and the late small basic design in the colors New El Toro Orange (1979), Yamaha Black (1980) and Clean White (1981). In contrast to the XT500, these side covers use a pin bolt on both sides to close them. On the TT500, the right-hand side cover is rounded towards the silencer from 1977 onwards, as a silencer without a flame pot was fitted in these model years. In 1976, both the TT500 and the XT500 had the lower exhaust pipe and the right-hand cover with a straight end.

In our range we also have the American versions of the design up to 1979 in Ginger Brown and both designs in Crystal Silver as well as the side covers of the XT500S from 1988 in Shiny Black.

As a replacement for the lock in the left side cover, we offer the keyless version Lockbuster.

If an accessory muffler without a flame pot (e.g. Sebring or TT replica muffler) is fitted, the TT500 side cover corresponding to the year of manufacture can be used on the right-hand side. If no side cover lock is required, the relevant TT side cover can also be used on the left-hand side.

This product collection shows the side covers and the decal that was originally installed in this model year. You can, of course, use any other decal to suit your taste, it just has to match the shape (design up to 1979 or design from 1980 onwards) of your side covers. The differences between the side cover decals correspond to the differences between the side covers, which can be clearly seen here in the shape of the lock recess (stickers up to 1979 are closed around the hole).
