It came as a pleasant surprise when, in early 2013, YAMAHA Europe invited us to participate in the “Yard Built” competition.
Together with the Danish design team “Wrenchmonkees,” we were tasked with redesigning the new SR400 to support its market launch. The result was the “GibbonSlap.” This concept motorcycle was unveiled to the public in November 2013 at the Milan Motor Show.
Matte black and stripped down to the bare essentials—a pure motorcycle in the truest sense of the word. Instead of bolting on every possible accessory, the Wrenchmonkees took the opposite approach and removed as much as possible.
The GibbonSlap is designed to be an everyday companion, equally suited for the commute to work, a trip to a café, or a visit to a lake. Unassuming, yet not inconspicuous, it’s as practical as possible—and accessible and affordable for everyone. This popular conversion part is still available from us, now improved in several details.
